MGS 17 – Purpose

Purpose People!

We talk a lot about finding our purpose, but what about living with purpose? It’s what helps us activate our potential.

In this episode of Mini Growth Sessions, I share the two key aspects that influence our ability to do things with purpose.

You don’t need a purpose to live your life, but your experience of life will certainly be more enriched if you live with it.

And here’s a bonus … Purpose + People = Purple! :)

MGS 15 – Courage

What to do about Fear

Growing and learning requires that we develop the courage to make friends with our fear.

To get on with doing what we were meant to in this world, we need to learn to become brave.

I wrote an article about this for the Do Lectures over on Medium. In it, I share three ways to help you overcome your fear.

Episode 15 of Mini Growth Sessions is a quick summary of these same three steps.

MGS 13 – Confidence

It’s all about ‘Can’…

It’s within our power to manage our confidence. We do it by matching our beliefs to our actions.

In this week’s episode of Mini Growth Sessions, I share three steps we can use to build and exercise our confidence.

What We Choose To Put In (Do Contribute)

What we put in affects what we get out.

What we put in

This month’s article for Do Lectures over on Medium is about contribution.

What we put in matters. So, if you want to see the magic happen, choose to do the challenging, difficult, scary, stinky or unknown things with the same energy, willingness and enthusiasm you bring to doing the fun, easy, simple things in life.

When we give more than we expect in return, the upside is that we get lucky. To find out more, head on over to Do Contribute to read “What we put in“.

What goodness are you forgetting to add to your daily tasks and activities?

MGS 11 – Cadence

Cadence is about achieving rhythm in your life

It is far better for us (and more realistic) than striving for the elusive work/life balance.

In episode 11, I reconnect with my inner Madonna and use a choice word to share my opinion on the hype around the elusive goal of creating “balance”. Sensitive viewers cover your ears, or if you’re ready to take charge,  then join me in creating a new movement!

If you want to find out more about cadence, I wrote a Medium post about it here.

Remember, be brave, think big, stand tall.

Big Self vs Small Self

What if I ignore the limits my scared self sets?

Every day we’re faced with the choice to be one of two people.

A scared self, who wants to remain small, so that we can be safe and certain.

Or a brave self. The version of ourselves who stands tall, shows courage and steps out there.

To do something, wear something, say something, make something or stand for something. The one who embraces new opportunities, despite the unknowns.

Our small self tries to set limits to protect us.

Sometimes there’s a jolly good reason for it. But sometimes that fear is an illusion.

What if that small self – or the limits it sets – didn’t exist?

“Don’t let your mind set limits that aren’t really there.”

~ Zadie Smith (English Novelist)

What if we step out into the world every single day being our Big, Brave Self…

… because that’s the person we choose to be?

… because that’s the person we actually are?

Our opportunities become limitless when we remove our self-imposed limits.

Be brave, think big, stand tall. Put on your velvet tasseled jacket with your 6 inch cowboy boots and go get ’em! :)

MGS1 – Self-Mastery

Introducing Mini Growth Sessions

I’m experimenting with something new. It’s a free taster version of my new Growth Sessions service.

As you can see it’s a work in progress … the lighting, backdrop and my delivery still need work but I’m rolling with it, so that I can learn as I go. :D

Mini Growth Sessions won’t replace my Doodles. If anything, they will complement them. Plus they’ll give you an idea of the topics I’ll be covering in my future Growth Sessions workshops.

So, without further ado, here’s the first episode of Mini Growth Sessions. It’s a brief intro to the concept of Self-Mastery.

Hope you enjoy it. Wishing you well and stay tuned for the next one.

Cheers, Mich :)

Slow Down

The benefits of not pushing…

What if I slow down to let things happen, instead of rushing to make them happen?

When we rush things or push too hard to make something happen the way we want it to, very often nothing (or something we don’t want) happens.

Why? Because we don’t leave enough space for things to unfold in a way that might be better. Because we aren’t being aware of the opportunities in our present that can positively shape the direction of that future.

“Boy, I hurried… I hurried for a long time. I’m sorry I did. All the time you’re hurrying, you’re not really as aware as you should be. You’re trying to make things happen instead of just letting it happen. You follow me?” ~ Bob Dylan

I’m a firm believer in making plans, setting goals and doing what needs doing. But when we’re trying too hard to reach that future place in a rush, without leaving a little wriggle room for opportunity, then we’re just like an impatient lion tamer. Cracking the whip without thinking about the consequences.

Making space in your life to let things unfold can mean a life that is more friendly than ferocious. Which would you prefer?
